The Lovers of Teruel – Diego and Isabel
Diego and Isabel loved each other, but Diego was poor, so he went to war to earn a fortune and be able to marry her. He promised to return in five years, but he was just one day late. When he returned, he found Isabel already married to another, and he died of immense grief right before her eyes. At Diego's funeral, Isabel, unable to bear the pain any longer, kissed his lips and died herself at that very moment. Now they rest in the same mausoleum, forever holding hands, as witnesses to pure love.
