Bavarian King Ludwig II was a lonely dreamer who loved art and legends more than actual rule or people. He withdrew from the world and dedicated his immense fortune to fairy-tale architecture, building spectacular castles like Neuschwanstein. His eccentric behavior and reclusiveness led his political opponents to declare him insane. Shortly after being deposed from the throne, he died under mysterious circumstances in a lake, along with his doctor. Ludwig II entered history as the „Fairy Tale King,“ leaving behind his realized architectural fantasies for the world.
